Description
This book is a tribute to a century of courage and faith. It traces the development of China Inland Mission from its foundation in 1866 down to the present., recalling many acts of inspiring devotion under stress and difficulty.
Its aim is to tell the story of the Mission from the viewpoint of a home base where a steady concern for such missionary enterprise has gone on growing with the passage of time, but to tell it in the wider context of the political developments, or the lawless interference, or the troubled society, or the changing circumstances in which the whole Mission has been involved.
Bishop Loane is eminently well fitted for this task. He has followed the Mission's work with interest for a long time, and is personally acquainted with many of its missionaries. In 1956 he visited China with Archbishop Mowell's party, and what he learned on this journey and later visits to South East Asian countries has helped him to produce a record that is both historically accurate and spiritually uplifting.
