Description
Benjamin Broomhall, brother-in-law of Hudson Taylor, was one of the best known Christian laymen in Britain in the latter part of the nineteenth century.
As the General Secretary of the China Inland Mission he was a prominent figure in churches and at large conventions where he spoke on China and the cause of missions. He was well known to Cabinet Ministers and members of Parliament for his uncompromising stand against the evils of slavery and the opium trade, and in his lifetime saw both evils largely eliminated.
Although he never set foot in China, Broomhall had a great influence on God's work in that land through the hundreds of young people he selected and sent out, including five of his own children.
